Singapore – Malaysia: ZenRooms Evergreen Residences

A big part of anyone’s travel budget would always go to accommodation.  Whenever our family travels, we always look for a practical place to stay.  We consider staying in a 5-star or even 4-star hotels during travels a no-no.  This is because whenever we travel, we are always outside exploring and we only needed a place to sleep, rest, and bath.

Singapore is known to be expensive when it comes to lodging.  When we traveled to Japan, we stayed in a rented apartment and booked it through Airbnb.  We were opting to do the same for our Singapore-Malaysia trip; however, Airbnb apartments in Singapore are more expensive than that of Japan! Wow! So we decided to look for cheaper alternative.  Then we found out about Zen Rooms.

Zen Rooms are condominium units rented out to be budget accommodations.  There are a lot of Zen Rooms branches in Singapore.  Some are located in the city center, some near shopping districts, and some near the airport.  When we were booking for our staying, there are approximately more than 15 Zen Rooms branches.  We chose the one near the airport – Zen Rooms Evergreen.

Zen Rooms Evergreen is located at Geylang area.  Some might say that Geylang is not the best location for kids as it is considered the red light district of Singapore.  Worry not, because Zen Rooms Evergreen is in a different street as that of the night clubs.

We arrived at Zen Rooms Evergreen around 2PM, just in time for check in.  The room we booked is complete for our standard.  It is small as expected.  It has a double bed, clean bed sheets and pillows, cabinet, air-conditioning, and LED television.  The room given to us has a balcony as well.

The room also has a small table that has an electric kettle.  Two bottled water are provided daily (which is a very nice as bottled water are expensive in Singapore).  If needed, you can borrow utensils at the front desk.

The bathroom has a sink, toilet with makeshift bidet, and a shower enclosure with hot and cold water.  It has a 3-in-1 liquid soap/shampoo/conditioner.  Bath towels are also provided.

Singapore has a different electric socket than the Philippines.  Zen Rooms’ staffs let us borrow an adapter so we didn’t need to buy one for our charging needs.

Here are some notes I’d like to give when booking Zen Rooms Evergreen.

Pros:

o   Zen Rooms offer affordable accommodation by Singapore standards.  We were able to stay for 4days/3nights at Zen Rooms Evergreen for less than Php2,400 per night.  We booked using a promo code – and you can too.  Just check out the end of this blog post.

o   Zen Rooms cleans the room daily and provides bottled water daily too.

o   The rooms are just perfect for our needs.  LED television shows some English speaking channels, air-conditioning is perfect, cold and hot water functioning well, and the room is clean.

o   Zen Rooms Evergreen is easy to locate.  The area is quiet and security is okay.  They have CCTV in all areas of Zen Rooms.

o   Zen Rooms allow guests to leave their luggage when you are arrive earlier than check in or when you leave later than check out time.

o   Staffs are accommodating but you have to be very patient in communicating with them.

Cons:

o   Zen Rooms Evergreen is 10 to 15mins walk from Aljunied MRT station.  Aljunied MRT Station is close to Changi Airport as it is coursing the same MRT line (East-West).  However, Zen Rooms is quite far from Aljunied MRT Station.  So if you are not very keen in walking long distances, this might not be the perfect billet for you.  You may search for another Zen Rooms branch still J

If you find Zen Rooms a perfect place for your next visit, you can use this link: ZenRooms  to book.  You will get USD 30 discount. Zen Rooms is available in a lot of Asian countries not just in Singapore – Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and even in the Philippines! 🙂
